大山登山

５月２７日に１７１０.６ｍ大山を登山しました。天気が晴れて中国から飛んでくる黄砂も少なくて、なかなか良い一日でした。冬の時にスノーボードしに行った大山と今の大山がかなり違っていて、良い経験となりました。ブナ林が特にきれいでした。

「クリッパーオデッセイ」

客船の「クリッパーオデッセイ」の歓迎セレモニーを５月１７日に司会者として開催しました。

14日13泊ということで、今年の夏に客船で観光客が日本をぐるっと回ります。一つの寄港が鳥取県境港です。今回の乗船の皆様は殆ど米国カリフォルニア州の出身者でした。

境港寄港で境港市観光協会と島根県観光振興課を代表として歓迎しました。それで島根県安来市の郷土民謡「安来節」の音楽にのせて、「どじょう掬い踊り」を披露されました。この踊りというのはどじょうを捕まえるときのコミカルな動作です。踊りを披露していただいたのは境港のエンターテイナー「ジミー柴田」さんでした。

それから、船を降りてから、足立美術館を始め、色々な観光地に見学しに行きました。

Dr. 佐々木、HAPPY BIRTHDAY

佐々木ドクター、
今月１２日に９２歳になりましておめでとうございます。健康とすばらしい幸福を願っております。島根県のためにすばらしい手柄をたてる佐々木様に産業振興課の皆様は成功が続けるように願っております。

2007 ISHIGAKI BG TRIATHLON WORLD CUP & 石垣島大会

交流員仲間のTroy Nakamuraから「2007 ITU トライアスロン・ワールドカップ石垣大会が４月１５日に１１回目の開催が決定されましたので、石垣島に来ない？」と誘ってくれました。

トライアスロンを通して世界のトップ選手と市民とが国や人類及び言葉や年齢の壁を乗り越えて、平和と友情を深めていくことが出来る機械となりました。

競技されたアスリートは以下の通りです。
○2007 Ishigaki BG Triathlon World Cup
国際トライアスロン連合推薦優秀選手　男女50名前後
日本トライアスロン連合推薦優秀選手　男女10名以内
○2007石垣島トライアスロン大会
A組700名・B組100組300名（3種目を3名のリレー方式）計1,000名

私はボランティアとして色々手伝わせてもらいました。例えば、空港に到着した選手をホテルまで連れていったり、競技会の説明したり、バスに乗りながら自転車用コースを説明したり、優勝した競技者とテレビ局インタビューの通訳したり、トライアスロン後の市民交流パーティの司会通訳（急にそうなったので、特に大変だった！）したりしました。

トライアスロンの経験も良かったが、勉強になると思わなかったのは、沖縄（うちなー）の文化のすごさでした。すごく興味を持ちました。　ダイナミックなところだなとよく思いました。

（THIS）健康博覧会２００７

島根県の健康食品産業創出プロジェクトについて今年東京ビッグサイトで３月２８日から３０日まで開催された健康博覧会に行ってきました。県又は数県内の企業が出展しました。

注目となった企業は以下のとおりです。

３月２３日にしんこう会（産業振興課・企業立地課・産業振興財団）の送別会が行われました。産業振興課から１２人が移動されます。お疲れ様、今年度もよろしくお願いします。

島根／テキサス産業技術共創委員会

テキサスと島根の技術交流というのは、三年前に連携して目的としては
１）両地域における経済活動の活性化
２）両地域の雇用の創出
と狙っています。県には重要な課題が、人口減少が続けつつある背景で、どのように経済発展を進んでいけるかということです。今、努力しているのは、ナノテクノロジーを始めとする有名なテキサスのハイテクによる、新しい産業と雇用又は起業を作る、それによる若年層の定着ができるようにすることです。

２月１８日（日）に合同委員会が開催されました。今回こそ活発な意見交換ができ、経済活動の活性化又は雇用の創出につながるこれからの具体的な目標を協議されました。

Matsue in the NYTimes

Was a little surprised to login to my NYTimes account and find an article featuring a photo that looked suspiciously like the view out my office window...

The article was a decent read - shared it with the office too. It concerns Lafcadio Hearn, his role as preserver of Japanese folk tales, his influence on tourism, and the ongoing activities of his great grandchild. I hadn't given Koizumi Yakumo too much of a thought, but he's been coming up a little lately, and so I plan on visiting his residence this weekend. After all, it is close.

I'd have liked to have seen it, but there was an interesting sounding exhibition at the Prefecture's art museum that was featuring Mr. Hearn's poems along side photographs of the scenes they depicted. Anyway, work kept me far enough away from the museum until the exhibition had finished.
