Paradoxical Pirate's Paradise

it is amazing to me how rampant fraud is on what are thought to be well established business sites such as eBay or Amazon.com's marketplace. not only this, but the systems in place to deal with issues such as counterfeiting are so wholly inadequate as to encourage continued flagrance of copyright laws as opposed to actually curtailing such activities.

a personal case in point: upon delivery, i found the item to be a fake. i notified eBay and proceeded to place another order for the same item on Amazon.com. upon delivery, i found the item to be, yet again, a fake. i have since notified both Amazon.com and eBay about this infraction of their trust and safety policies. in response both similarly encouraged me to contact the seller, to engage the seller in "open and honest" dialog. what the f!#%!? am i the only one who sees where the points don't form a line?

there exists not regulation, be it for all free men to freely pirate intellectual property at will. we stand by in silence.

I think it's scary how if you don't choose wisely on the internet, you might be in for some serious trouble.

But the internet is such a place where freedom to express one's self, truly or untruly is what makes it so unique. Many people feel invincible because their real selfs are shrouded in mystery and all anyone gets to see is their public faces.

Also, places like ebay and the marketplace, I feel are there thriving on the silence. People are able to exchange things that would otherwise be illegal in face to face transactions.

I see your point in that we need regulation, but by how much? Once we start, will we know when to stop? I say no if it's going to be started by this administration.

Finally, Aaron why are you posting so early in the morning! Go to BED! ;)

i read you loud and clear in regards to regulation by the current administration.

i'm just frustrated because i'd rather not have to pay for a counterfeit item - after all, if i had wanted a fake, i could have gotten one for free! in this case, i wanted the genuine article and was thwarted each time (and from all sides).

Agree....

I had another friend with the same problem and she called the seller out on it. The seller was properly ashamed and refunded the item all the while letting her keep it. I think you should go talk to the seller, they may not know.

What is this item? A purse?

maybe we should just call it a "purse" and leave it at that?

UPDATE
i have since been in contact with the Amazon Marketplace seller, who hastened to refund my purchase upon initial contact. poor bastard doesn't know i already turned him in.

progress is slow on the eBay front. i'm not so sure this particular seller speaks English. but then, Hong Kong is the land of fraud - and if you want it, you can get a copy.
